Later Gaters

Alright y'all. In exactly 6 hours, I will be boarding on a plane headed for the west coast. There won't be much time for blogging and so I'll see you all when I get back next Tuesday. Can you believe I haven't started packing yet? So typical.

Oh Canada, my home and native land, here I come!

Toodles!

Geographical Orphans Part Deux

I bought a new digital camera about a month ago and just now finally figured out how to transfer pictures from my camera onto my laptop. Go figure huh?

A few Saturdays ago I had some good friends over at my place for a lovely dinner party. My fellow Geographical Orphans , my family, my friends, whom I've known from pretty much the time I moved out here to the east coast. Anyways, just wanted to post a few pictures of my new place - well, the dining area at least and of course, the gang. ;) Below you'll notice the lovely dinner setting on the dining room table. I just noticed that the salad plates match the Rothko print that I have on the wall. No, I'm not THAT anal, to have things matching to the Tee. Merely a coincidence.

Good friends, good times. I'm obviously not in the picture since I was the taking it. Notice the empty chair at the head of the table? :D Since the group of us hadn't been together in a few months like this, we ended up just sitting around the table, laughing and chatting away until almost 1 AM. My other good friend, Larissa, came by later and joined us for the rest of the evening. It was good times. Good times.

Count Down

I'm flying home to the west coast to visit the family this Thursday morning. Shh....it's a surprise. Mom and dad have no idea about this visit and so it will be fun to just randomly walk in the house like I actually live there. Actually, my aunt (HHB's mom) and I have been conspiring over the last few weeks about this particular visit. She's also flying up to visit, but from San Diego. Anyway, our arrivals will be within half an hour of each other and so my dear brother will be picking us up at Sea-Tac airport and then taking the 2 hour drive up to Surrey/Vancouver, BC. Seeing that I'm only there for four days, it's going to be a relatively short trip. See, four days after I get back from visiting the family, I leave for France. Yes, I know, life is just too hard. ;)

I cannot wait to see the looks on my parents' faces!

Welcome To Camden

It was a fairly tiring afternoon, what with having to battle traffic on Broad Street in Philly and trying to make it for my doctor's appointment in Jersey this afternoon. Thank God for back roads with no traffic lights. I made it to my appoinment with 5 minutes to spare. Nonetheless, I did my thing at the doctor's office, (clean bill of health!) and then proceeded home. It was a beautiful east coast afternoon/early evening with not a cloud in the sky and the sun radiating its warmth on the earth. As tired as I was, I decided that I was going to make myself go on a post-work run along the water front. I changed into my running gear, but I tell ya, it was like pulling teeth trying to haul my ass out the door. After about a half hour of debating with myself, between the merits of running this evening or early tomorrow morning, I finally decided to just get it over and done with and headed out the door. Yes, I am proud.

My usual running route takes me alongside the Ben Franklin Bridge, which leads toward the Camden waterfront. I usually run the whole length of the promenade and back to my place, which is approximately 3.5 miles. Inspite of my earlier reluctance to go on this particular run due to sheer laziness, after about 10 minutes I was really starting to get into the groove my run. Picture this: beautiful warm day, great view of the Philly skyline, nice breeze coming from the Delaware River, etc... I was in my running element, until I turned my head over towards the almost empty parking lot facing the waterfront, only to bear witness to a full view of a young couple having sex in their vehicle. I will not go into any gory details of what I saw, but I am absolutely certain of what they were doing in the vehicle.

WELCOME TO FREAKIN' CAMDEN!

I understand that there are some people out there with various freaky types of fetishes especially when it comes to sex. What people do behind their bedroom door is their business, not mine. But I mean, come on now! If you were seriously THAT desperate to satiate your urges, does it have to be in a very public place where people, especially young children, frequent? If you can't do it at home because you still live with the parents, then go rent a room! If you don't have the money to rent a room, then go somewhere deep in the forest where you can satisfy your animalistic instincts. And if you don't have quick access to the woods, then there's always a parking garage where you will at least have a semblance of privacy - for a minimal fee of say $5.00 or so, give or take a few bucks.

So I continue my run, with of course, this mental image of this couple in my head, only because I am so riled up about it. Running for another five minutes, I look down and what do I see? A used condom.

Is nothing sacred anymore???

Dumb Ass Moment #6

I am on a serious roll with my DAM's because another one transpired just today. Although, I think I'm making up for all those months of neglecting to post my DAM's.

So earlier this afternoon I went food shopping at Wegmans, picking up a few things for a get together I was having at my place this evening. My plan was to make some fresh guacamole and so I wandered aimlessly around the produce section at Wegman's for about five minutes looking for some avocado. I *heart* avocado. Finally, I gave up and decided to ask one of the produce guys who was stocking up in the asparagus section.

Me: Excuse me, can you please tell me where the avocado is located?

Produce Guy: *With smirk on his face* You're standing next to it.

Call me the resident Dumb Ass of New Jersey.

Dumb Ass Moment #5

It's been a while since I've posted one of my DAM's and seeing what transpired this past Wednesday, I'd have to say was a notable blogworthy DAM post. Amusingly enough, some of you might find this one all to familiar. On Wednesday evening, I had just finished a work meeting in one of the suburbs of Philly and found myself with about an hour or so to kill before heading out to my church small group. There was a Barnes and Noble bookstore down the street from where I was and so I decided to peruse through one of my happy places. Oh yeah, B&N is my certifiable "happy place"...along with Target, Banana Republic, PJ's, Serendipity3, Central Park, etc...but I digress.

So there I am at B&N in the midst of a vast collection of fine literature and of course, for those of you who know me, I am always in my element when inside a store filled with books. But really, that is kind of besides the point. Nonetheless, I found a few books to keep me distracted for about an hour or so. Of course, as soon as I sat down on one of the comfy cushioned chairs, my bladder started sending me these signals (figuratively speaking of course) and so I had to get up from my comfy chair and head towards the bathroom. Interestingly enough, I had already become quite engrossed in one of the books I picked out and so as I walked towards the bathroom, I was also reading this book at the same time. Upon arriving at the bathroom, still absorbed in my book, I pushed open the bathroom door and was assaulted by this strong, pungent odour. Mind you, I was already INSIDE the bathroom and as I peered around the corner, you can imagine my delight when I discovered about 4 urinals neatly lined up next to each other. Lovely. Talk about deja vu.

I am such a freakin' Dumb ASS.

My mom saw an oncologist the other day.

I'm scared as hell.

Road Trip

Yes, I know I've been a slacker blogger as of late. Part of the reason is that I had to admit my laptop at the "computer hospital" and it won't be ready until sometime early next week.

I am at this moment blogging from our hotel room in Ithaca, NY. Irishgirl, The Rev, and I are spending the weekend exploring Ithaca and it's surrounding area. Since it's wine country region, guess what we'll be doing tomorrow? Anyways, I am, as Irishgirl would put it, "knackered" and so I will bid you all a good night. Have a great Labor Day weekend to all!
