In His Time
In His time, in His time,
He makes all things beautiful,
In His time.
Lord please show me everyday,
as you're teaching me your way,
that You'll do just what you say,
In Your time.
In Your time, in Your time.
You make all things beautiful,
In Your time.
Lord my life to you I bring,
May each song I have to sing,
be to you a lovely thing,
In Your time. - Ernie Rettino & Debbie Kerner Rettino
As a child I sang in a children's choir at the Baptist church I grew up in, where we sang many songs from the Psalty album. Psalty is this kids songbook character (literally) who sang songs with his "booklet" family, singing about the gospel message and sharing with children how much God loves them. It's interesting, however, that as a child I am fairly certain I understood the meaning and the impact of the songs I was singing. As an adult, however, I realize the impact the words that some of these songs continue to have in my life. I wasn't evening planning on blogging tonight. God knows, it's been forever and a day since I've last blogged. Nonetheless, I felt this nudge tonight, the lyrics to the song I used to sing in choir as a kid, "In His Time", slowly started to form in my head, and then the music started to ring in my head. It felt like God was slowly whispering the words into my ear, urging me to recall this timeless song that I sang in church as a child. They're simple words and yet as I read them with my adult eyes, I see the innocence and the child-like trust in those words. And what's struck me the most is that these lyrics continue to apply today in my life. It's sad to see how a few hard knocks in life can result in making one quite jaded and cynical. Over these last six months I have felt so broken and so burned as I've climbed an upward battle in so many areas of my life, personally and professionally. Somewhere along the way, I lost hope in the beauty of God's work and timing in my life. And now, a ray of light appears to be peeking through the dark clouds, but yet I still feel guarded and uneasy. I know it's fear of trusting in God's perfect timing. It is also the unbelief creeping in, the unbelief in God's promise to follow through with "making all things beautiful in His time", even if His "time" is not in accordance with my "time". He may, in fact, decide to never reveal it in my time and I need to be okay with that.
I want with my whole heart to sing these words with the conviction and child-like faith that "He makes all things beautiful in His time", even if "His time" may never be in my time.
